From the Head of HR and Operation’s Desk
At Earlybird, we know that children thrive when the adults around them are supported to learn, grow and feel confident in what they do. That’s why professional development isn’t something we do once or twice a year, it’s part of our culture. We are committed to creating opportunities for every team member to learn, develop new skills and continue growing throughout their career with us.
Learning Together
One of the cornerstones of our professional development programme is our quarterly All Team Training. These training days bring together employees from all our centres to connect, collaborate and learn as one team. They are always filled with practical learning, engaging discussions and opportunities to share ideas and experiences. Whether we’re exploring child development, strengthening teaching practices, refreshing health and safety knowledge, or developing leadership skills, our goal is always the same; to ensure our teams are equipped to provide the very best care and education for the children in our classrooms.
While these quarterly sessions are a highlight, learning at Earlybird happens every day.
Our Principals play a vital role in developing their teams through regular classroom observations, coaching conversations and constructive feedback. These ongoing check-ins create opportunities to celebrate successes, identify areas for growth and provide practical support where it’s needed most. We believe that development is most effective when it’s continuous, supportive and tailored to the individual.
We also place a strong emphasis on mentorship. Through regular mentorship check-ins, employees have dedicated time to reflect on their progress, discuss challenges, set goals and receive guidance from experienced leaders. These conversations help build confidence, strengthen relationships and create a culture where people feel supported to ask questions, learn from mistakes and continue improving.
For new employees, our structured onboarding and induction process provides a solid foundation from day one. We want every new team member to feel welcomed, understand our culture and values, and have the tools they need to succeed in their role.
Creating Opportunities to Grow
Our commitment to professional development also extends beyond the classroom. We support employees through learnerships, role-specific training, compliance and health and safety training, leadership development opportunities and performance development conversations. As our organisation grows, we strive to create meaningful career pathways, giving employees opportunities to take on new responsibilities and progress into leadership roles.
One of the things we value most is learning from one another. Some of the best ideas come from the conversations we have across our centres, whether it’s sharing successful classroom strategies, solving challenges together or celebrating innovative approaches. By creating opportunities for collaboration, we continue to strengthen not only individual employees but our organisation as a whole.
Professional development is not about having all the answers, it’s about remaining curious, open to learning and committed to continuous improvement. In early childhood education, there is always something new to discover, and we want our teams to feel inspired to keep growing.
When we invest in our people, the impact reaches far beyond our employees. It is reflected in our classrooms, in the confidence of our educators, in the relationships we build with families and, most importantly, in the experiences of the children we serve every day.
At Earlybird, we don’t just develop educators, we invest in people. Because when our people grow, our children flourish, our teams become stronger and our impact as an organisation continues to grow.
